Thrilled we are to have A Life of Science tweet their tour for us while they man handle the mid-west and east coast. You can catch them at a bevy of venues and Comic Con in Ohio and NYC! These kids get the internets, yes they do.
Oh the gilded age of Seattle flannel-rock and Cobain camp-outs under a bridge . Yes, I do remember. I was a prime audience. Young, bored and in a minor identity crisis. I miss the Buzz Bin, Up All Night and the beige cultural landscape that is middle America. That’s right dont-chya-know?
Since then Pearl Jam’s star rose, they’ve packed stadiums, established trust funds and now battle against touring the state fair circuit with Clint Black. No really, it’s true and they know it.
Their new record, “Backspacer” has dropped and in a mad dash to regain relevance PJ hopped in the sack with some major brands to bring the goods to the kids. Target, iTunes, MySpace, Jiffy Lube, Mrs. Dash; you name it. Spice up that pot pie with a little Backspacer, but not too much; just a dash.
In honor of this event horizon I give you a magazine cover retrospective, including the 3 Spin “collectors edition” covers currently hitting news stands. Oh neat. Wait, who am I?

Steve Jobs materialized this week with a new liver and to drop the music world a whole lot of something that was just ok. iTunes 9 is out! Huzzah! Yep, well it really wasn’t all that exciting.
What is exciting is the fact that bands are building their own iPhone Apps to capitalize on the public’s unquenchable thirst for content . So here we go from Read Write Web…
“Instead of trying to reinvent the wheel, these music-themed apps are innovative new ways for fans to interact with content produced by their favorite artists. For example, Nine Inch Nails released a multimedia application earlier this year where fans can access a mobile version of the fan site nin.com, interact with other fans through location-based chat and photo sharing, stream tracks and exclusive playlists, download wallpapers, and much more. Although the app is free in the iTunes app store, the side effect of having more engaged fans means having more people interested in buying the band’s music.” Read the rest…
We love us some Twitter here at BTTV and bands should too. It’s easy to go overboard though and Hypebot did the deed by pulling together some solid advice.
From the Hypebot:
1. Clean your feed – A good cleansing is in order! If you’re like the average artist, you’re following way to many people for all the wrong reasons and it’s time to un-follow most of them. You’ve got to clear out the junk and noise so you can make your Twitter feed useful and manageable. Don’t follow people just because they follow you!
2. Follow with a purpose – Stop following everyone at random (Even in your local music scene). Follow bands, clubs, and club bookers that you’d like to work with, and who in return, might want to work with you. Keep this list as small as possible.
3. Focus Locally – Give your Twitter feed the local touch so it reflects the pulse of the music scene in your town for your genre. Keep it as focused as possible. Don’t follow people across the country, or around the globe just because you can.
4. Interact – Now that you have your targeted follow list, it’s time to interact, and the more interaction the better! Social media is an excellent way to push out content, but it is far more effective if that content is coupled with sincere interaction. This step is key!
5. Take the relationships into the real world – Once you’ve started to dialogue with folks, ask to meet up in person. You’d be surprised at how many people are more than happy to grab a cup of coffee and share their insights and experiences. They’ll also be more likely think of you when they’re looking for an artist or band like you. Note: Whenever meeting people from the internet, don’t be stupid. Use good judgement and carry a big can of pepper spray!
