Pearl Jam + Target + MySpace + iTunes = Everything they were against.

Oh the gilded age of Seattle flannel-rock and Cobain camp-outs under a bridge . Yes, I do remember. I was a prime audience. Young, bored and in a minor identity crisis. I miss the Buzz Bin, Up All Night and the beige cultural landscape that is middle America. That’s right dont-chya-know?

Since then Pearl Jam’s star rose, they’ve packed stadiums, established trust funds and now battle against touring the state fair circuit with Clint Black. No really, it’s true and they know it.

Their new record, “Backspacer” has dropped and in a mad dash to regain relevance PJ hopped in the sack with some major brands to bring the goods to the kids. Target, iTunes, MySpace, Jiffy Lube, Mrs. Dash; you name it. Spice up that pot pie with a little Backspacer, but not too much; just a dash.

In honor of this event horizon I give you a magazine cover retrospective, including the 3 Spin “collectors edition” covers currently hitting news stands. Oh neat. Wait, who am I?
