I'm in the lucky situation of working for my father at the moment, who owns a music shop in Hudson (www.goodmusica.com). Granted I'm biased, but honestly I think it's one of the best music stores I've ever come across, and if you're a musician, you're sure to enjoy it.
Moreover, we sometimes put on free concerts, and have connections with the local venues as well.
Plus, Hudson's a cool place to visit. Just two hours by train from NYC. And here you have both nature & (a little) city. Some really cool 19th Century architecture, too!
On the flip side, I may be looking for some places to crash as well, as I'm a musician myself. Currently I'm recorded what will be my first semi-commercial album; once that project's done I hope to hit the road with my guitar and my songs.
